Okay, I know the headline is a little on the “sensationalistic” side, but it’s actually true 🙂
It’s a known fact that women’s sports often get a little overshadowed by football, baseball, wrestling, men’s basketball etc, but Augustana is trying to change that. And you know how bad I am at coping with gender inequality, so I thought it’d be an interesting project and accepted the request to help out with the 200 for 200 campaign led by Bryan Miller.
I have, over the past few weeks, been working on eight short videos that will help promote the female athletes here at Augie, and here’s one of them:
The response has been pretty overwhelming so far: Within just a couple of days people had donated almost $7,000, and it’s not over yet, so please visit 200 for 200 to donate.
This project was very different from anything I’ve done in the past, because usually my focus is solely on telling people’s stories, and not on trying to persuade the viewers to do anything other than to just watch and listen.
And in the past I’ve always been 100% in charge of everything — everything from camera angles, audio, composition and storyline to lighting, location and interviewing. This time however, I was given specific instructions beforehand, and the producer (Bryan Miller) took care of the interviewing and locations, which was a whole new experience for me. Quite frankly, I thought it would make my job easier than usual, but I was wrong — I don’t think I’ve ever struggled this much with making a video look the way I wanted it to look, haha.
Even if I’m no longer an athlete here at Augie, it makes me happy to see the support people are showing to the ladies who actually are representing the teams.
Oh, and I was just reminded the other day that the video I made earlier this fall was aired on regional TV a couple of weeks ago. I had completely forgotten about it, but I got an e-mail with a screenshot of the end credits and I suddenly remembered. I didn’t actually see it though, but I’ll try to find an online version.
But this is the video that was aired.
So that’s what’s new.. as far as video production is concerned at least.
Have a wonderful evening,
